House music, techno and trance are all genres within electronic dance music

House Music originated from Chicago in the early 1980's whereby it derived its name from a club named 'The Warehouse'. As spun by DJ's in clubs, house music spread phenomonly to New York, Detroit and of course Europe (where it REALLY hit off). It was heavily influenced by disco music with elements of soul, rnb and funk.

According to Wikipedia:
House music is based on four-by-four dance structure, popularized by disco, frequent use of a prominent bass drum on ever beat, and may feature a prominent synthesizer bassline, electronic drums, electronic effects, funk and pop samles, often with reverb-or delay-enhanced vocals.

Techno Music developed in Detroit in the mid 1980's together with house music. The two genres often coincide with each other however we must acknowledge the distinction as Techno music: " is a distinct musical form in its own right.." (Wikipedia). Techno music is an instrumental genre and can be described as having technological and computerised beats- this helps us to distinguish the difference between house and trance music.

And lastly ! Trance Music !. This genre of electronic dance music  is more dramatic and emotional in nature. Wikipedia states that:
It is usually more melodic than techno, and the harder styles usually have harder beats than house...[it is]generally characterised by a tempo of between 120 and 145 bpm, repeating melodic synthesizer phrases, and a musical form that builds up and breaks down throughout a track.
