Indian Music

I bet when you think of indian music you can picture an indian lady running around a field or a tree, singing and dancing with her love helplessly running after her. YEP ! thats pretty much indian music for you !

 Indian music can range from:
  • Folk
  • Tribal/Folk
  • Bhajans or Devotional
  • Ghazels or Qawwalis
  • Bhangra
  • Film songs
  • Rajasthan
  • Indi-pop
  • Remix songs
  • Fusion/Dance

Indian music can be viewed as an expression of culture and also religion- it is said to be one of the oldest unbroken musical traditions in the world ! It can be traced back through its orgins in the Vedas which is a sacred acient hindu text- and im telling you now- thats pretty old!

Classical indian music compromises of three art forms- vocal music, instrumental music and dance. In modern times these three aspects have transformed into highly modified artforms. You probably see it today in modern indian films- and even in western music industries such as 'Jai Ho' performed by the Pussycat dolls.

Indian music within its very nature consists of multiple genres- it embraces culture & tradition! It ranges from traditional religious music to entertainment music such as those within films. It can sometimes be characterised as a muscial and/or theatracial performance. You can get an idea of the differenct genres and styles of indian music by having a look at the videos below. Enjoy !
